Clarissa Vaughan
Clarissa Vaughan is mostly like Clarissa Dalloway and slightly similar to Rezia. Michael Cunningham created Clarissa Vaughan to be almost identical to Clarissa Dalloway but living in New York City eight decades later. They have many of the same experiences during the day, like planning a party, buying flowers, hearing a startling, gossip-causing, loud bang, and meeting old friends they haven't seen in years. Clarissa Dalloway kissed her friend Sally and Clarissa Vaughan has a lives with her lover named Sally. Ms. Vaughan is meant to be a modern but equally revolutionary model of Mrs. Dalloway. They have the same questions about life and wonder how things would be different if they married someone else. Clarissa Vaughan is like Rezia because she is caring for her beloved friend Richard who has a mental illness and like Septimus, kills himself later in the day.
Julia Vaughan
Julia Vaughan, Clarissa Vaughan's daughter, is a rebellious teenager who is not the kind of daughter her mother imagined having and has a friend who Ms. Vaughan hates because she thinks she is a bad influence. In Mrs. Dalloway, Clarissa's daughter, Elizabeth is not the girly daughter that she wanted and is friends with her private teacher who Clarissa does not like at all.
Mary Krull
Mary Krull is Julia Vaughan's friend who smokes a lot and does not get along with Clarissa Vaughan. She is like Ms. Kilman, Elizabeth's teacher and friend who strongly dislikes Mrs. Dalloway because she appears to be thoughtless and constantly hosts parties. Neither are girly enough for either of the Clarissa's and are believed to be a bad influence. "Fraud, Clarissa thinks. You've fooled my daughter, but you don't fool me," (160).
"She is trivial. She is someone who thinks too much about parties. If only Julia can someday forgive her..." (161).-Mary Krull

Louis
Louis is arguably modeled after Peter Walsh from Mrs. Dalloway. Louis was Richard's lover but after an argument, left and did not return until the day of the party, claiming he is in love with a younger man who he cannot have. Clarissa Dalloway and Peter Walsh had a relationship until she met Richard which devastated Peter so he left the country and suddenly returned on the day of her party, also claiming he was in love with someone he could not have- a married woman.
Sally
Sally is Clarissa Vaughan's lover and has lived with her for eighteen years. She is a modern version of the Clarissa Dalloway's friend Sally from Mrs. Dalloway. While Mrs. Dalloway only kisses Sally once, Ms. Vaughan has a long-lasting, open relationship with Sally. Both cases are equally as alarming for the society of their respectable time periods. Sally also make the same gesture as Richard by buying Clarissa roses but never says she loves her, though the sentiment is apparent.
